Colchester Avenue, Burlington VT - Public Meeting: New Date: February 3rd, 2011

UPDATE:

Mark your calendars:
Colchester Avenue Public Meeting on FEBRUARY 3rd, 2011 - 5.45pm-8.30pm
From Local Motion:
Short-term: The exciting redesign of Colchester Avenue is still in demonstration phase.  After the City took a bold step to transition Colchester Avenue from 4 lanes to 3 lanes in October 2010, the City changed course and extended the original one-month pilot project through spring 2011.  While emailed public comments ran 160 in support to 10 opposed, the City's elected leaders asked for more time.  Please keep telling the city that you want the complete street redesign made permanent!

Next Public Meeting: Feb 3rd, 2011 @ McClure Conference Room, 111 Colchester Ave.
This winter, the project consultant will work with the City to re-time the signals.  Unfortunately, the signal camera at Mary Fletcher drive is not working and poor existing intersection design cannot be changed in the short term.  As a result, the complete street is not operating as efficiently as it could be.  Nonetheless, the corridor is working and even the Fire Department likes the middle turn lane as it "gets us through".
Local Motion encourages residents to participate in this process.  Bring your ideas and vision to the upcoming meetings!  Want to know more? Contact  Local Motion's Executive DirectorChapin Spencer or the CCMPO's transportation planner  Eleni Churchill .
